IF YOU HAVE A GRAVEL DRIVEWAY PLEASE ENSURE THAT GRAVEL DOES NOT GO ONTO THE HIGHWAY AS IT CAN END UP BLOCKING THE DRAINS.

Brightstone Lane - We are aware of the issues with blocked drains here and have written numerous times to HCC.  There are 22 drains here.

Crows Lane -  Works to be scheduled by HCC (no date known)

Hall Lane (near Upper Farringdon House/corner sign) - deemed not requiring action

Shirnall Meadows / Chase View Entrance - this problem with the blocked drains has been sorted by HCC. We are hoping that they are now part of the maintenance schedule to avoid future flooding here.

We are creating a Drain Location Book, taking pictures of where the drains are in Farringdon, this is then put on a Farringdon map (numbering the drains). This will be put on this website when finished (bit of a slog as there are a lot of drains to photograph and map), so if you feel there is an issue with drains you can look at the book and tell us the number. This should be finished by December 2024 hopefully.

Barleywood Farm Lane (Gaston Lane):

HCC Update 09/07: "The traffic management at this site is being monitored by our area teams so hopefully is rectified quickly when it is moved. As regards to the permanent solution, we are still working on the design for this. We are actively engaged with our contractor and also the flood management team to ensure that the right solution is implemented. As such I will not be able to provide you with an update on timescales at this point but I will do as soon as we have a programme in place."

Update 20/5 From HCC - 'Initially it was believed that the issue was limited to leaning headwalls which had become detached from the ends of the culvert which runs underneath the road. However, after a detailed inspection it became clear that there were also cracks within the brick culvert as well as the defects visible at the ends. The nature of defects mean that any repairs would likely cause further damage to the main culvert structure. Therefore, a full replacement is going to be undertaken which will provide a durable, long-term solution avoiding the need to return in future years.

A detailed topographic survey of the wider area is scheduled for 29 May to facilitate the design for the replacement which is likely to be in the form of precast box units. Engineers are coordinating with the Ordinary Water Course Team to ensure any proposals for replacement are acceptable considering the area is susceptible to flooding. This may result in the culvert become slightly wider to accommodate a larger flow area. Liaison with the manufacturer of box culvert units is ongoing to establish lead in times for delivering units to site.

The road will remain closed until the culvert is fully replaced. Unfortunately, the estimated completion will not be known until the box unit / culvert manufacturer provides estimated delivery dates. Current thinking is that the road will re-open towards the end of summer.'

Earlier we made an official complaint to HCC about closing the road until July 2025. Response from HCC -

Thank you for your recent communication regarding the closure of Barleywood Farm Lane at the culvert. Hampshire County Council have taken the decision to close this section of road for safety reasons after a site inspection and on the advice of a structural engineer. It was brought to our attention that the spandrels and wingwalls of the culvert are failing.

The road closure notice that we have obtained spans 18 months. This does not mean the road will stay closed for 18 months but allows us to periodically close the road within that time without the need to apply for another road closure.

We are currently liaising with our Structures department on securing a team who can carry out the repairs. Works will be programmed as soon as resource allows but until that time the road will remain closed for safety.
